National IRIA

Founded in 1931 by Dr. Ajit Mohan Bose and Dr. Subodh Mitra in Calcutta, the Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) began its journey with a modest 24 members, initially meeting as a section of the Indian Medical Association. After a brief pause in activities during World War II, the association was revived by Dr. P Rama Rao and Dr. K.M. Rai in Chennai. Since 1946, the IRIA has evolved into a strong, cohesive body, steadily growing to encompass a membership of over 27,000 radiologists from all corners of India.

Adapting to the changing landscape, the association’s name was later modified to the Indian Radiology & Imaging Association. Registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860, IRIA is dedicated to advancing the study and practice of diagnostic radiological and imaging modalities. Its core objectives include keeping practicing radiologists abreast of the latest developments in radiology, imaging, and radiation medicine, promoting medical research in these fields, and advocating methods of community welfare
